Today, the Research Institute of Motherhood and Childhood hosted the grand opening of the Colposcopy Reference Center – the only institute in the country that will provide quality colposcopy services for women, advanced training courses, including certification, colposcopy, for specialists in this field. When this is a thorough examination of the cervix, it is recommended to use it in case the results of the Pap test are abnormal.
The event was also attended by MMK Director Sergey Gladun, Secretary General of the Head of State at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Boris Gylka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Ye. S. Masanobu Yoshii, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director, his Deputy (Programmes), UN Population Fund, Dereje Wordofa and representatives of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Embassy of Romania, Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, National Health Insurance Company, Cancer Institute, National Health Agency, specialists-colposcopy.
At the beginning of the event, MMK Director Sergey Gladun thanked the distinguished guests for their assistance in implementing this project, and noted the importance of the Colposcopy Center in preventing cervical cancer in our country. Senior officials also welcomed the opening ceremony of the Center, expressing hope that similar projects will continue in the future.
Over the past two years, the United Nations Population Fund and other development partners have also supported the development of the cervical cancer service in Moldova, including colposcopy services. As a result, after one of the orders of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection” approved in 2017, the Center, Colposcopy, was established at the Institute of Mother and Child. Modern equipment was installed in the center, with the help of the “Kusanone” program of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Moldova, provided that financial support of more than $ 84,000 was provided. The center consists of three colposcopy departments, including the Department of Gynecology al-body Mass Index, for patients who will need medical care, on an outpatient basis. Services should be arranged to eight staff members of the Center that they are able to serve up to forty-five patients per day.
The Colposcopy reference center has opened the only institution of its kind in our country that has enough space and is equipped with modern equipment in accordance with international standards in this field.
