Cervical Cancer Prevention Week – mobilization for women’s health in the Republic of Moldova

24 December 2025

Every year, in the last week of January, Cervical Cancer Prevention Week is marked internationally, dedicated to informing and raising awareness about the importance of prevention. Although most activities take place during this period, the campaign continues throughout the year, through additional actions organized together with interested institutions and communities.

On February 18, 2025, the team of the Cervical Screening Implementation Coordination Unit within the Institute of Mother and Child, under the aegis of the Ministry of Health, in partnership with UNFPA Moldova, World Health Organization in Moldova, the National Health Insurance Company and the National Agency for Public Health, organized a flashmob inside Kaufland Moldova, Botanica.

Volunteers from the Center for Excellence in Medicine and Pharmacy “Raisa Pacalo” danced wearing T-shirts with the campaign symbol, interacted with visitors and distributed informational materials on cervical cancer prevention. The event reflected community mobilization and active involvement in promoting women’s health.

Women between the ages of 25 and 61 can benefit from cervical screening, offered free of charge by their family doctor, every three years. Screening, together with the HPV vaccination, are effective methods of protection against cervical cancer.
