Vaccine safety

The HPV vaccine is safe and well tolerated.

Adverse reactions are usually mild and transient, being mainly local, such as pain, redness or slight swelling at the injection site.

Vaccinated individuals are monitored for 30 minutes after administration.

The vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women, but can be safely administered to breastfeeding women.

Vaccination is postponed in case of severe fever, but a mild cold is not a contraindication.

The vaccine does not affect fertility and does not influence pubertal development.

The protection offered by the HPV vaccine is long-lasting, lasting for at least 10–12 years without the need for a booster dose.

The vaccine does not treat existing HPV infections, but prevents infection with the types of virus included in the vaccine.
