Human Papilloma Virus and Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is caused by a virus called Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is spread mainly through sexual contact. Most adults usually get HPV at some point in their lives. Most HPV infections have no symptoms and go away on their own. However, in some women, the infection does not go away on its own, and these women are at increased risk of developing cervical cancer.
