Dr. Diana Valuță, gynecologist-oncologist and coordinator of the National Cervical Screening Program within the Institute of Mother and Child, gave an interview to the EaPConnect platform, in which she presented the recent developments of the National Colposcopy Network and its impact on cervical cancer prevention in the Republic of Moldova.
According to Dr. Valuță, the network, launched in 2023, integrates 12 colposcopy offices located in district and municipal medical institutions, digitally connected to the National Reference Center for Colposcopy. This structure allows for imaging evaluation of the cervix, performing biopsies and referring complex cases to the reference level, significantly reducing the need for trips to Chișinău.
Diana Valuță mentioned that the use of videocolposcopy and telemedicine supports the standardization of diagnostic standards, through remote supervision and interdisciplinary consultation, including for cases with suspected precancerous lesions. In the interview, she emphasized that precancerous lesions evolve slowly, which allows for their detection and treatment if women regularly participate in screening.
The network contributes to increasing women’s access to specialized services in all regions, by integrating screening, colposcopy, histopathological diagnosis and monitoring components. According to the coordinator of the National Cervical Screening Program, the digitalization of processes, including the development of the national registry, facilitates the identification of eligible women and the tracking of the clinical course, increasing the quality and continuity of care.
The interview was conducted by EaPConnect platform, in the context of digital modernization initiatives in public health in Eastern Europe.
