The launch event of the Cervical Cancer Prevention Week in the Republic of Moldova, edition 2023, will take place on Monday, January 23, at 11:00 AM, in the premises of Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
Cervical Cancer Prevention Week is organized in our country for the 11th consecutive year, and this year, for the first time, the campaign starts on the platform Women Deputies from the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
The launch event will be attended by:
- Doina Gherman, President of the Platform of Women Deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova together with women deputies
- Ala Nemerenco, Minister of Health of the Republic of Moldova
- Natalia Plugaru, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Republic of Moldova
- Dr. Miljana Grbic, WHO Representative in the Republic of Moldova
- Maha Damaj, UNICEF Representative in the Republic of Moldova
The event will feature doctors, specialists, and female champions who have managed to prevent cervical cancer thanks to cytological testing and timely detection of precancerous lesions, including mothers with children, as well as a mother with her daughter vaccinated against HPV infection.
The slogan of the Cervical Cancer Prevention Week in the Republic of Moldova in 2023 is: “Stay Healthy. Get a Pap Test! Get Vaccinated Against HPV Infection!” and will take place from January 23 to February 4.
Cervical cancer remains a major public health problem in the Republic of Moldova, with around 160 women dying from the disease each year. Most affected women are young women aged 35-45.
Cervical cancer is the only oncological disease that can be completely prevented through vaccination against HPV infection in adolescence and cytological testing by women aged 25-61, once every 3 years.
