Vaccination and testing – together for protection

Vaccination does not replace screening testing.

Even if a person is vaccinated, it is important to have regular Pap tests because the vaccine does not provide protection against all types of HPV.

Vaccination prevents infection with the main types of HPV that can cause cancer, and cytological screening detects early cell changes caused by other types of HPV. The combination of these measures provides the most effective protection against cervical cancer.
