In order for the Papanicolaou test to provide a correct and easy-to-interpret result, it is good to keep in mind a few recommendations before collection.
The test is done outside of your menstrual period, preferably 4–5 days after your period ends. If you are menopausal, the test can be done any day, according to the schedule established with your family doctor. If you suspect you are pregnant, it is important to notify your doctor, to discuss the appropriate collection conditions.
It is recommended that you avoid sexual intercourse for 48 hours before the test. Also during this time, do not use vaginal washes, douches, lubricants, spermicides, or other products applied inside the vagina.
Harvesting is a quick, easy, and painless procedure.
Pap test not performed during menstruation, because blood can coat the cervical cells and influence the result.
